Training for Effective, Ethical, and Relational Practice

Motivational Interviewing • Trauma • Reflective Practice

I’m Janeth Nuñez del Prado, LCSW — a bilingual trainer, clinician, and educator.

I help professionals deepen the way they listen, understand ambivalence, navigate influence ethically, and support meaningful change.

My trainings bring Motivational Interviewing into conversation with trauma, attachment, culture, metaphor, ethics, and meaning-making.

Going Beneath the Technique
Motivational Interviewing, Trauma, Ethics, and Reflective Practice

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based, goal-oriented approach to conversation that gives professionals practical tools to strengthen engagement, deepen collaboration, and support meaningful movement toward change. It is useful across disciplines wherever professionals are helping people navigate ambivalence, make values-aligned decisions, or change behavior.

My approach teaches the foundational skills of MI and then goes deeper by asking questions such as: What does it mean to truly accompany someone who feels two ways at once? How do our own values shape a conversation about change? What happens when trauma, culture, attachment, fear, or identity enter the room? How can metaphor help us hear meaning that has not yet been fully put into words?

I teach MI as a living, relational practice rather than a set of techniques to memorize. My trainings combine practical skill-building with storytelling, experiential learning, reflective practice, and clinical vignettes drawn from deidentified case material—the people and families I have worked with over the years whose lives breathed life into the theory.

Learners leave with skills they can immediately apply in practice and, often, a deeper shift in how they understand their clients, their work, and themselves.

Janeth is exceptional at what she does. I have never had a therapist so insightful, warm, intuitive and steadying. Janeth is whip smart as well as refreshingly well-informed through her own lived experience on the struggles faced by communities of color in the fields of therapy and psychology. I cannot recommend her enough, as having her guidance and support throughout my journey has been truly life changing for me.

— Client

I am a clinician, Motivational Interviewing trainer, consultant, and educator with more than fifteen years of experience working at the intersections of trauma, attachment, culture, and change.

As a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), I teach helping professionals how to use MI with greater skill, depth, curiosity, and ethical awareness. My clinical background in complex trauma and relational work deeply informs the way I teach.

Alongside my training and education work, I maintain a small clinical practice focused on adults healing from complex PTSD, relational trauma, attachment wounds, and the lasting effects of difficult early experiences. My practice has a particular interest in people whose lives have also been shaped by culture, identity, marginalization, or systems involvement, including Latine and justice-impacted communities. My approach integrates evidence-informed trauma treatment with attachment, culture, meaning-making, and Motivational Interviewing.

I provide training, consultation, and clinical services in English and Spanish.
